B&W seeks to convert the 75 MW station to enable it to use bioenergy with a carbon capture and storage system.
Ohio-based Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) has secured a contract with Northstar Clean Energy for an engineering study to convert a coal-fired power plant to a biomass-fueled one, B&W said Wednesday.
B&W seeks to convert the 75-megawatt (MW) TES Filer City Station in Filer City, Michigan, to enable it to use bioenergy with a carbon capture and storage (BECCS) system.
The aim is for the plant to be retrofitted with B&W’s SolveBright post-combustion carbon dioxide scrubbing process, which “provides flexibility in the regenerable solvent used to isolate carbon dioxide for sequestration or utilization”, the company said.
